Chainsaw Cross-cutting and maintenance initial training

Chainsaw Cross-cutting and maintenance initial training (CS30)

This is a perfect introduction to expertly handling and maintaining a chainsaw.

It is a hands-on course that delivers both practical skills and health and safety guidance.

Accreditation: Lantra (City and Guilds can be organised if required)

Course Duration: 2 Days

Maximum number participants: 4

Regular Refresher training is recommended:

Full Time Users: Every 5 years

Occasional Users: Every 2 -3 Years

Prerequisites: None

Price: £470+VAT

We keep the training groups small so that you’ll receive plenty of individual attention from our experienced instructors throughout the process.

What will be covered?

By the end of this course, you’ll be able to:

  • Identify the necessary personal protective equipment required, report on its condition and locate the various standard marks
  • Identify required health and safety features on a chainsaw
  • Prepare the chainsaw for use with the correct fuel/oil mix and chain lubrication
  • Start the chainsaw from both cold and hot in a safe manner
  • Carry out pre-cutting safety tests – and state the procedures if the chainsaw fails these tests
  • State the possible hazards/risks when carrying out maintenance or operational tasks
  • Organise site safety and state the procedures required
  • Identify faults and defects on a chainsaw and decide which you can sort yourself and which will need the help of a service engineer
  • Select and identify the correct tools to enable maintenance and report on their serviceability
  • Carry out all routine maintenance in accordance with the manufacturer’s instruction book and/or the Lantra Awards workbook
  • Cross-cut timber accurately to required lengths
  • Assess and explain the terms ‘tension’ and ‘compression’ in timber
  • Adopt safe procedures to remove a trapped guide bar
  • Handle and stack timber in a safe manner.

Worth noting: Our course involves some physical sessions, so it is essential that you have at least a minimum level of fitness.

Equipment required for the training.

Chainsaw complying with pre-course handout, operator’s maintenance kit and equipment, and personal protective equipment as per pre-course handout.

Worth noting:  Instructors have been instructed not to undertake training where trainees do not have the appropriate protective equipment and appropriate saw.

Cancellation Policy

The full cost of the course is to be paid before the start of the course.

If you cancel your place you will be liable for 100% of the cost. Unless a cancellation is received in writing 14 days prior to the commencement of the course.

Chainsaw cross-cutting and maintenance refresher training

Brief Description

This is a hands-on course that delivers both practical skills and health and safety guidance as well as demonstrating that you have completed sufficient training to meet the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER).

Course sessions

  • HSE legislation and safety guidelines
  • Overview of the chainsaw and maintenance equipment
  • Maintaining the saw chain
  • Maintaining the guide bar
  • Power unit maintenance
  • Starting the chainsaw and pre-cutting tests
  • Cross-cutting timber.

Worth noting: Our course involves some physical sessions, so it is essential that you have at least a minimum level of fitness.

Chainsaw Felling up to 380mm

Brief Description

The danger involved in felling trees is common knowledge, how to carry out the work safely and effectively not so well known.

Our course will give you the confidence and expertise to tackle this hazardous job from start to finish, as well as demonstrating that you and your employer have completed sufficient training to meet the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER).

Safety is at the heart of the course, so you’ll be taught how to keep both yourself and the surrounding area protected.

You’ll also learn cross-cutting and branch removal techniques, how to work with different tools and site clearance methods.

Accreditation: City and Guilds (NPTC)

Course Duration: 3 Days training 1 Day assessment

Maximum number participants: 4

Assessment: Practical assessment on Separate day to training

Prerequisites: Chainsaw Cross cut and Maintenance

Price: POA

What will be Covered?

  • HSE legislation and safety guidelines
  • Felling
  • Branch removal – snedding and de-limbing
  • Cross-cutting felled timber
  • Take down hung-up trees using hand tools
  • Clear site and chainsaw checks.

Worth noting: You’ll need at least a minimum level of fitness for this course as certain elements involve physical work.
